Cynon Valley Museum, Gallery and Café

Cynon Valley Museum in Aberdare features exhibitions on the social and industrial history of the Cynon Valley. After a brief glance at the Bronze and Iron Ages it examines the last 200 years, from the birth of the Hirwaun iron industry to the closure of the coal industry in the 1990’s.
Multi-media facilities enable visitors to follow the lives of a fictitious family by looking at five separate time periods, from their immigration into the valley in 1860 onwards.

With massive influx of people into the area, the ‘Footprints’ Gallery looks at the broadest spectrum of social life of the new community including sport, religion, politics and work.
The Space, contemporary Art Gallery shows a range of work by local artists, and the Footprints Cafe’ serves freshly prepared light meals and snacks, fairtrade coffees and teas
A gift shop sells a wide range of contemporary jewellery, glass and ceramics and extensive range of art books and limited edition prints
