Lake Vyrnwy

Lake Vyrnwy combines its functional role as a water supply for Liverpool with a touch of architectural genius in the shape of the huge 19th century damm at its southern end, and the turreted tower that stands out into the icy waters. It's a magnificent spot, and a popular centre for walking and birdwatching, with nature trails.

To make the most of your day at one of Wales' most beautiful lakes, call first at the Lake Vyrnwy Visitor Centre for up-to-date information on all the activities on offer. The Centre shares its premises and opening hours with the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) Centre.

Experience the calm of its woodland setting, see the sculpture park and let the kids let off steam in the adventure playground. Purchase local crafts, coffee, home-made cakes or organic farm produce and enjoy a picnic in the great outdoors.

Also nearby is a tourist information office, and Artisan's Coffee Shop (T. 01691 870377), from where you can rent bikes.
