The National Botanic Garden

The National Botanic Garden of Wales is contained in a stunning oval glasshouse designed by Norman Foster around principles of sustainability. A central walkway leads past lakes, sculptures, and geological outcrops from all over Wales, with walks down towards slate bed plantings and different wood and wetland habitats.

The glasshouse is packed with plants from Mediterranean regions, South Africa and California. Surrounding land is used as an organic farm with Welsh breeds of cattle and sheep, and a walled garden provides organic vegetables for the restaurant and cafe.

Other collections include the Apothecaries Garden, with herbal plants from around the world, and Woods of the world, which is made up of trees and shrubs from regions of the world which share a similar climate to Wales.

A garden shop and a plant shop are located in a converted stable block.
