Buckfast Abbey

Buckfast Abbey enjoys a tranquil setting beside the swift flowing River Dart, and is still home to a Roman Catholic communityn of Benedictine Monks. The abbey is open to visitors however, and includes a gift shop selling monastic produce, a book shop and a restaurant which serves cream teas and delicious lunches! You can take an extensive Visitors Tour, which takes in the various chapels and churches, bee hives, winemaking area, lavender gardens and a medieval monk exhibition.

Buckfast Abbey Opening Times:
The Abbey Church is used by the monks for prayer at several times throughout each day. In addition, there are services each day for the Abbey parish. Details of these services can be found at Service Times. Outside of these times, the Church is open to the general visitor as follows:
Sundays, Noon to 6.00 pm
Weekdays, 9.00 am (Fridays 10.00 am) to 6.00 pm
Special Services, such as weddings and funerals may restrict visitors from viewing the whole of the Church
