Rannoch Station, Tea Room and Visitor Centre

Set against the awe-inspiring backdrop of Rannoch Moor, Rannoch Station is the perfect starting point for  families, day trippers, walkers and cyclists who want to experience and explore one of the most stunning landscapes that Scotland has to offer.

The Visitor Centre is housed in the historic Grade B listed station buildings, and provides an insight into the fascinating natural history of the area and turbulent chapters from the region’s history.

The tearoom offers an extensive menu of snacks and light meals including vegetarian options, as well as an extensive selection of homemade cakes and sweets, and is also licensed to offer a wide selection of wines and Scottish beers. A gift shop sells souvenirs, books on local issues, maps, toiletries and foods.

Rannoch Moor occupies roughly 150 miles of uninhabitable peat bogs, lochs, heather hillocks, strewn lumps of granite and  a few gnarled Caledoniam pine, all of it over 1000 ft above sea level. There is only one road, between Crianlarich and Glen Coe, skirting its western side, while another struggles west from Pitlochry to reach its eastern edge at Rannoch Station.

The only regular form of transport is the West Highland Railway, which stops at Rannoch and, a little to the north, Corrour Station, which has no road at all.

An SYHA hostel a mile away on the shores of Loch Ossian makes this an area a great place for hikers seeking somewhere genuinely off the beaten track. From Rannoch Station it's possible to catch the train to Corrour and walk the nine miles back.
