Goat Fell - Isle of Arran

The northern half of Arran is sparsely populated, mountainous and bleak, whilst the southern half enjoys a much milder climate -  hence the island's alternative name tag 'Scotland in Miniature.'
Brodick, the island's capital, is set in a wide sandy bay against a backdrop of granite mountains. Nearby Brodick Castle and Gardens features an exotic collection of plants and trees, and commands superb views accross the bay.
Lamlash on the Island's southeast corner, oozes a sedate Edwardian charm, and is the deaparture point for boat trips to Holy Island, which is now owned by a group of Tibetan Buddhists.
Whiting Bay, also on the southeast of the island, has some excellent hotels, including The Royal and the Argentine House Hotel, which also serve very good (and expensive) food.
Goat Fell
At 2866 ft, Goat Fell is the highest peak, and can be ascended from Brodick, or Corrie, a pretty seaside village six miles north.
Further north is Sannox, a broad sweeping bay of golden sand accessed by bus from Brodick for a walk back over Goat Fell which takes about five hours.
