Top 10 ten places to visit in Northern Ireland - Belfast
The Botanic Gardens and Ulster Museum
First opened in 1827, Belfast's popular Botanic Gardens are a civilised Victorian diversion from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Palm House is a curvilinear white-painted iron framed construction, which pre-dates the famous similar hothouse at Kew Gardens in London. The nearby Tropical Ravine is a sunken glen full of plants from far-flung jungles.
Also in the Botanic Gardens is the Ulster Museum, with displays ranging from a dinosaur show to reproductions of early Irish jewellery, the history of the Irish post office and geology and Irish wildlife.
The Early Ireland exhibition traces the development of the prehistoric population, and the Girona exhibition contains treasures from the Spanish Armada ships that foundered off the Giant's Causeway in 1588 and were salvaged by divers in the 1960's.
