Heysham Anglo-Viking Chapel

Heysham Village is well worth a visit and is one of the most interesting Anglo-Viking settlements in Northwest England.

It has a history stretching back thousands of years, evidenced by the ruins of St Patrick's Chapel with graves hewn out of solid rock upon the headland hidden beyond St Peter's Church, which itself dates from the 10th century.

Take a short walk down past through the snuggling old cottages (many dating back to the 17th Century) and down onto the shore at Half Moon Bay. Enjoy some afternoon tea in the village cafe or dine in the beer gardens of the 16th century village pub.

Heysham's curiosities such as the novel brass beam-weighing machine add to the charm of this village. For more on the village's fascinating history, visit the excellent display and exhibitions at Heysham Heritage Centre, housed in a converted 17th century listed barn in the heart of the village.

Heysham Anglo-Viking Chapel
There are two sites - the ruined St. Patrick's Chapel, and the slightly later Anglo Viking Chapel which is still in use as a church.
Both are open all year round, and admission to both is free.
