The Lake District Visitor Centre

Situated on the shores of Lake Windermere between Windermere and Ambleside on the A591, the Lake District Visitor Centre is designed to help visitors to enjoy and appreciate England's largest National Park.

The large house was built in 1899 for a wealthy businessman which is set in thirty two acres of landscaped gardens and grounds stretching to the shore the lake.

Plenty of events take place throughout the year, from the Easter Eggstravaganza in April, Waterlife Festival in May even a Roman Invasion.

Children are also catered for with various activities and an adventure playground. Lake Cruises on Windermere are available as well as organised guided walks.

There are interactive exhibitions on two floors with an audio visual display on Lakeland Living, an Information Centre, Gift and Book Shop and a Cafe that overlooks the gardens and Lake Windermere.
