Bamburgh Castle and Beach

Bamburgh has one of the finest beaches on the Northumberland Coast with a vast expanse of golden sands. The imposing Bamburgh Castle dominates the skyline. Extensively restored in the 1750's and more recently at the end of the 19th century it is open to the public throughout the year.

Grace Darling is one of the most famous inhabitants of Bamburgh. With her father she saved many lives from the wreck of the SS Forfarshire in 1838, rowing out in a storm to rescue passengers and crew. She is buried at nearby St Aidan's Church and you can learn more about her in the Grace Darling Museum opposite.

Bamburgh village has gift shops, a grocers, butcher, newsagent, plant nursery, restaurants, pubs and a cricket pitch, all within walking distance of the village green.
