Durham Botanic Gardens, Café and Visitor Centre

Durham Botanic Gardens has plant collections from around the world, including China, Japan, North America, South Africa, New Zealand and Chile, as well as a woodland garden, alpine garden and bamboo grove.

In the glasshouses you will find a collection of tropical rainforest plants, desert plants, and more familiar plants from the mediterranean. There are also some tropical bugs, scorpions and tarantulas. In late summer to early spring the arboretum is grazed by rare breed sheep. There are also various pieces of artwork around the garden. 

Durham Botanic Gardens is an eighteen-acre garden set in mature woodland with exotic trees from America and the Himalayas. In Prince Bishops’ Garden are a tropical house and cactus house with butterflies and insects. There's also a visitor centre with changing exhibitions, a cafe and toilets.

10.00am to 4.00pm (November until the end of February)
