New Walk Museum and Art Gallery

New Walk Museum and Art Gallery is situated within the historic New Walk area of the city of Leicester. In 1849 the Literary and Philosophical Society formally presented to the town its various collections, which have grown and developed over the last 160 years.

Leicester's oldest museum has wide-ranging collections spanning the natural and cultural world. There are five main areas; Wild Space, The Mighty Dinosaurs, Ancient Egyptians, The Art Galleries  - which contain an outstanding collection of 20th century German Expressionism, and Leicestershire's Rocks.

New Walk Museum has been the inspiration for many people, including Sir David Attenborough, who pursued his love of natural history as a result of regular visits to the galleries as a child.

The museum has a coffee shop, and the City Gallery Shop sells craft and design gifts. New Walk Museum and Art Gallery is also a venue for musical performances and weddings.
