6. Jermyn Street

Top 10 ten London - Piccadilly and St James

Jermyn Street

Tucked between Picadilly and St James Park, Jermyn Street epitomises an idea of English tailoring. Although not quite in the same league in terms of cost and status as Saville Row, (further north off Regent Street) which focuses more on suit making, men can buy good quality ready made or made to measure shirts, shoes and accessories like ties and cufflinks, with some shops also offering suits, jackets and trousers.

The whole street is lined with shops selling men’s clothes, apart from one incongruous but very nice cheese shop. You can buy formal or casual wear, although “casual” in Jermyn Street might mean something like a shirt with a soft collar - depending on the shop. Service is almost always polite, friendly and formal. Expect to be called “Sir” all the time, by impeccably suited gentlemen tailors and shop assistants with tape measures hanging round their necks.
